Research Scientist

This rank is generally parallel to Professor. In addition to having the qualifications required of the Associate Research Scientist, appointees shall have established a national and, where appropriate, international reputation for outstanding scientific research. They should provide tangible evidence of sound scholarly production in research, publications, professional achievements, or other distinguished and creative activity. Appointments are typically made as five-year contracts. Appointments for additional five-year terms can be renewed as early as the third year.

To complete the Appointment, Evaluation and Promotion (AEP) process for a Research Scientist, gather the required documents listed below and email them to UMIACS Coordinator Elizabeth Hontz.

    • This should cover your professional activities, administrative, and/or managerial responsibilities, productivity, creativity, professional development, accomplished research and directions for future research.
  • References
    • The candidate shall provide three references who will be contacted to submit a letter of recommendation. The committee will choose three additional references to provide letters. Of the six references, at least three must be external to the University.
