Vanessa Frias-Martinez is a professor in the College of Information with an appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies.

Frias-Martinez’s research focuses on data-driven behavioral modeling and spatio-temporal data mining using large-scale data to study human mobility, social networks and the physical environment. She develops methodologies to predict human behaviors and tools for decision-making in areas like poverty, natural disasters and urban planning.
