Joshua Weitz is a professor of biology with an affiliate appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies.
The central focus of his research is to understand how viruses transform human and environmental health. He develops theories and computational models to study how viral infections affect individuals, populations and communities, influencing ecosystem-scale functions.
Weitz is a member of the UMD Center of Excellence in Microbiome Sciences where he leads research in quantitative microbial dynamics and ecosystems.
