Research Focus: Biodiversity Informatics
Evan Economo is a professor and chair of the Department of Entomology with an affiliate appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies.
His research focuses on biodiversity informatics, combining fieldwork, collections-based science, and emerging technologies to study the evolutionary and ecological patterns that shape global biodiversity. Economo’s lab develops and applies advanced tools in imaging, sequencing, and computation to address knowledge gaps in understudied taxa, particularly insects, while also creating new ways for the public to engage with biodiversity.
