Wu Receives IEEE Sensors Council Technical Achievement Award

Min Wu, a Distinguished University Professor of electrical and computer engineering with an appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS), has been named a recipient of the 2026 IEEE Sensors Council Technical Achievement Award.

The award honors an individual for outstanding technical contributions within the scope of the IEEE Sensors Council, based on the overall quality, originality, and impact of their publications and patents.

Wu was specifically cited for significant contributions to sensing forensics and analytics, including fundamental methodologies and applications of societal importance.

The Technical Achievement Award will be presented during the IEEE SENSORS 2026 Conference, held Oct. 25–28 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

This is the latest in a long line of accolades for Wu. Most recently, she received the A. James Clark School of Engineering Poole & Kent Teaching Award in May for her leadership in developing innovative curricula that bring real-world forensics and research into the classroom.

Other honors include the Harriett B. Rigas Award from the IEEE Education Society, the Maryland Innovator of the Year Award, and the IEEE Signal Processing Society Meritorious Service Award.

In 2024, she received an Excellence in Research Award from the Washington Academy of Sciences, recognizing her significant contributions to research and innovation in multimedia forensics, security, and smart health.

Wu is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the IEEE. She was elected president of the IEEE Signal Processing Society for 2024–25, becoming the first woman of color to take on the leadership role in the technical society’s 75-year history.
