Samet and Graduate Student Win Best Paper Award

Hanan Samet, professor of computer science and UMIACS, was recognized with a Best Paper award at the 7th ACM SIGSPATIAL Workshop on Geographic Information Retrieval (GIR’13) held in Orlando, Fla., on Nov. 5.

A doctoral student advised by Samet, Marco Adelfio, co-authored the paper, which is titled “Structured Toponym Resolution Using Combined Hierarchical Place Categories.”
