Larry Davis appointed Director of CFAR

Larry Davis was appointed as the Director of the Center for Automation Research (CFAR), for a five year term starting August 1, 2012. Dr. Davis is an outstanding scholar in the field of computer vision. He has made several foundational contributions in a number of areas in vision, image processing, and robotics, including modeling and tracking of people and their activities in videos, understanding of human facial expressions, gait analysis, texture analysis, and robotic path planning.

A Fellow of IEEE and IAPR, Dr. Davis has also served as the Director of UMIACS (1985 - 1994) and as the Chair of the Department of Computer Science (1999 - 2012).
