Dr. Jon Froehlich wins 2012 University of Washington Distinguished Dissertation Award

Jon Froehlich – UMIACS faculty and a 2011 University of Washington Computer Science & Engineering Ph.D. alumnus – was recently named the recipient of the 2012 UW Distinguished Dissertation Award.

Dr. Froehlich’s dissertation, Sensing and Feedback of Everyday Activities to Promote Environmental Behaviors, focuses on creating new types of sensors to monitor and infer everyday human activity, such as driving to work or taking a shower, and subsequently taking this sensed information and providing it back to the user in novel, engaging, and informative ways to increase awareness and promote environmentally responsible behavior.
