Bederson and Porter Active in New Online Learning Collaboration

Sep 09, 2013

Computer science professors Ben Bederson and Adam Porter, both in UMIACS, are active in a new Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) collaboration with Vanderbilt University.

Bederson, in his new role as the university's special adviser on technology and educational transformation, helped build the new program that allows students worldwide to sign up for the two-part course co-taught by faculty at both institutions.

Porter will teach the first part, "Programming Handheld Systems Android" with a Vanderbilt team concluding the course. The goal of the MOOC class is to allow students to create and examine, from end-to-end, an app that integrates mobile devices with cloud computing platforms.
