Jia-Bin Huang will join the Department of Computer Science in August 2022 as a Capital One associate professor. He is currently a visiting research scientist at Facebook Reality Labs.

Huang’s research interests include computer vision, computer graphics and machine learning with a focus on visual analysis and synthesis with physically grounded constraints.

He received his doctoral degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2016.

Huang’s research received the best student paper award at the IAPR International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR) and the best paper award in the ACM Symposium on Eye Tracking Research & Applications (ETRA).

He is the recipient of a Dissertation Completion Fellowship, the Thomas & Margaret Huang award from UIUC, a National Science Foundation CRII award, a Samsung Global Outreach Award, a 3M non-tenured faculty award, and a Google faculty research award.
