Dumitras Organizing MC2 Workshop on Data-Driven Security and Privacy

Tue Jan 06, 2015

Tudor Dumitras, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering with appointments in UMIACS and the Maryland Cybersecurity Center (MC2), has organized a workshop Jan. 8 – 9 at UMD for researchers interested in studying security and privacy empirically, using data-driven techniques.

Workshop topics will include understanding the motivations, capabilities and limitations of real-world adversaries; putting theoretical assumptions to the test; accounting for the socio-economic incentives of attackers and for the properties of deployment environments; and measuring and predicting security. The goal of the event is to strengthen the community by providing a forum for discussing research challenges and promising research directions.

The workshop will produce a report outlining a research agenda for data-driven security and privacy and providing recommendations for the funding agencies. MC2 Director Jonathan Katz and MC2 faculty member Michelle Mazurek are co-organizers of the workshop.
