Abstract

Although significant work has been done in the field of face- and gait- based recognition, the performance of the state-of-the-art recognition algorithms is not good enough to be effective in operational systems. Most algorithms do reasonably well for controlled images but are susceptible to changes in illumination conditions and pose. This has shifted the focus of research to more challenging tasks of obtaining better performance for uncontrolled realistic scenarios. In this chapter, we discuss several recent advances made to achieve this goal.
