An innovative map query interface developed by Hanan Samet, Distinguished University Professor of computer science with an appointment in UMIACS, is featured in the October 2014 issue of Communications of the ACM.

The interface, called NewsStand, monitors the output of more than 10,000 RSS news sources, associating these news stories with the locations they mention.

Communications of the ACM is a leading publication for the computing and information technology fields that is read by more than 85,000 computing researchers and practitioners worldwide.
