Typical procedure

1 ) Click "select file", to select either a .txt file. Remember that you must have an .fs with the same filestem in the same directory.

3 ) Use "Prev sentence" or "Next sentence to select a sentence to work on. The current sentence will be highlighted, and the words of that sentence is listed in the left lower text window.

4 ) If you want to observe the tree structure of that sentence and you have Tred running, you can click "show graph". A new TrEd window should pop out.

You can modify the tree structure inside TrEd. After finish editing and save, you can click "Update" to import the new tree structure. (This can't be parallized with annotating. Meaning that if you click "Update", then the annotating results after "Show Graph" will lost)

Please close the TrEd window now if you don't need it.

4b ) If you do not have Tred running but do have GRAPH, load the fs file into GRAPH. You can look at the tree in GRAPH but you cannot edit it. There is no interactin between TIAMAT and GRAPH.

5 ) In the left lower window, you can select a word by clicking on it, it will be highlighted in yellow and it's children will be red-underlined.

6 ) You can modify the word if you think its format is not correct, etc.

7 ) Click "Query" to search OMEGA for the concepts of that word.

8 ) You can use "Upper concept" or "lower concept" to view more concepts.

9 ) If you are satified with the concepts returned, click "Apply"

10 ) For each concept, the concept definition, the upper concepts will be displayed.

If OMEGA has semantic role definition for that concept, this tool will try to assign roles to children of the current word. It will also show an example for that role assignment.

IF you are satified with the Role Definition but not the role assignment, click the corresponding underlined concept, then click "Edit Role assignment". A small window will pop up. You can manully assign roles, then click "Accept".

If none of the role definition is satisfying , you can click the last "DummyConcept", then "Edit role assignment" to manually create a new concept, it's role definition, and role assignment. (It's suggested that you first browse over OMEGA using web browser (http://omega.isi.edu) to find an existing OMEGA concept, when possible).

12 ) To work on a different word, go to5 )

13 ) To view the new result, go to4 )

14 ) To work on a different sentence, go to3 )

15 ) After all finished. Use menu->save/save_as to note down the result. Result file name must end with ".fsx". Default result file name will use same prefix as the data file.

Limitation

No '' should be used in any of the attributes, except for escaping purposes.
