I am an Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Maryland Center for Advanded Study of Language. I was a research assistant at the Computational Linguistics and Information Processing Laboratory (CLIP) at the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS).

Research Interests

My main research areas are text summarization, machine translation, information retrieval, and natural language processing.

My current research interest is developing systems to automatically produce headlines for newspaper articles.

Research Projects

  • HMM Hedge - statistical generation of headlines
  • Hedge Trimmer - parser-and-trim generation of headlines
  • Topiary - hybrid topic list and fluent headlines for broadcast and written news
  • Cesium - Analysis component of an Interlingal Machine Transation System
