Professional Experience
May 1992 --- present
Graduate Research Assistant:
Center for Automation Research
, University of Maryland at College Park
- Researched techniques for constructing 3D object
models using aerial images taken from a single site.
Studied and implemented methods for registering images to
the constructed site model, and registering images to images.
- Researched approaches for automatic target recognition, monitoring
and change detection, using constructed site models;
studied techniques for image segmentation, feature
extraction/grouping and pattern recognition.
- Implemented DCT based JPEG compression algorithms.
Have a good understanding of MPEG.
- Developed systems in C and X-windows for :
- detecting and reconstructing 3D cylindrical objects.
- the computer graphics applications for image
rendering, rubber-banding graph drawing tool and
real-time flight simulation.
- extracting edges, lines, corners, circles, ellipses and rectangles.
- semi-automatic image analysis, which lets users
register images to site models,
extract/select/edit features and display/analyze
images and results interactively.
- Designed and implemented programs in C++ for :
- the recognition of 1D and 2D regular object
configurations.
- registering images to a site model, and monitoring
changes using statistical approaches.
- detecting vehicles in aerial images. This package
has been delivered by General Electric to National
Exploitation Laboratory and other government agencies.
Aug. 1990 --- May 1992
Teaching Assistant:
Department of Computer Science, University of Maryland at College Park
- Conducted discussion sessions for discrete mathematics
and basic computer science courses.
Oct. 1988 --- Aug. 1990
Ensign Instructor: Taiwan Army.
- Taught courses in communication/computers, and led
laboratory courses designed for operating and
trouble-shooting communication systems.
- Compiled maintenance, repair and operation manuals of a
PCM communication system.
Academic Honors
- Received Dean's Award for Academic Excellence, National Taiwan
University in 1985 and 1986.
- Was one of the 7 recipients of the prestigious National Talent
Youth Scholarship awarded by Southeast Cultural Education
Foundation, Taiwan, from 1984 to 1988.
