Mt. Washington, July 2008

Mt. Washington is the tallest peak in North East. The only peaks higher than that in the east coast are in the Smokies. Relatively steep climb, which we all made in very good time. The descent down was very rocky and took its toll on our poor knees. None the less, the best climb I've done w/o a backpack.

Backpacking at Great Smokies (Big Creek Area). Oct, 2006. TN/NC

I can take the cold. And I can take the rain ... but the combo is too much even for a heat hating me. We climbed 4000 feet over 6 miles on the first day, in freezing rain and camped out in sub-freezing temp. Noob Pavan handled it surprisingly well. A sign of times maybe. Neways, the second day was gorgeous. And Smokies feels the same as Shenandoah and it is a long 9 hrs away!.

Start: cold, rainy day.

Big Creek at the foothills.

Fall... literally.

First night of camping:
windy, rainy and sub freezing temp.

Big Creek: at higher altitudes.

Coffee!!!.

Backpacking at Death Valley, CA. March 17-21, 2006.

The most memorable trip. The sunrise at Death Valley was some sight. The hike itself was very pleasant. An interesting canyon crossing ... that ended up with us running down a mountain .. Marble canyon was spectacular. Dante's view of Badwater lake ... Ubehebe Crater ... The sand dunes ... ah well! need to find a job in CA.
