In
general, when people make software for kids, adults usually watch
kids to find out what they do and think. Most of the time kids
don't watch kids. But we do, and below are examples from our "contextual
inquiry" notebooks. Kids watched other kids for 20 minutes
draw with KidPix software.
What
one kid (age 7) saw when two other kids drew a picture together
on the computer...
What
another kid (age 7) saw of the same two kids working together
at the computer...
What
another kid (age 7) saw of when two different kids worked together
at the computer...
What
we concluded from this contextual inquiry session was that kids
need more technologies that let them work together at the same
computer better.
