appointed by the White House and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, to help affect U.S. policy concerning libraries and the dissemination and use of information.
 
 

2001-2006, National Science Foundation Career Award
an award I received for promising junior faculty research.
this 5-year research grant is used to focus on the development of the classroom of the future.
 
 

2001, Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award
an honor I received from the University of Maryland Parents Association for Undergraduate education.
 
 

1999-2000, Lilly-Center for Teaching Excellence Fellow
an award that enables 10 faculty members to meet throughout the year to discuss teaching and learning issues.
 
 

1998, ACM SIGCHI Distinguished Service Award
an honor presented by the international organization on Human-Computer Interaction.
