Dear friend,
Thank you very much for your overwhelming response in support of our activities, in our fervent search for Sanjoy Ghose.
As you are aware, in the fifth month after Sanjoy's abduction from Majuli, a Press Conference was held on 4th December, 1997, which had the following objectives:
On Sanjoy's birthday, the 7th of December, a Peace Concert was held at the Qutab Farm House. Groups from Delhi, Rajasthan and the North-East participated, performing classical, rock, folk, pop and fusion music. There was a Bihu dancer from Assam, as well as a street play put up by college students. Despite the weather creating a bit of anxiety, there was a flow of supporters in the duration of 6 hours of the show.
Badges and car stickers with a photograph and the phrase " In Search of Sanjoy Ghose" have been printed, and were distributed at both the above mentioned events. On both occasions, people signed an endorsement letter to the Chief Minister of Assam, on a large piece of cloth. The idea is to present this to him on his next visit to Delhi -- to raise the very question -- Where is Sanjoy Ghose? We want to know the Truth!
Sumita is presently in the North East, accompanied by Ms Arundhati Ghose, in an attempt to find out what has really happened, in light of the contradictory statements issued both by the ULFA and the Government, with regard to Sanjoy's abduction.
We are thinking of an "Assam Chalo", in the month of March '98, in the event that we receive no fresh leads or a definite answer to Joy's whereabouts.
In doing all these activities, we have incurred an expense of about Rs. 35,000. Many of you have contributed to the Friends of Sanjoy Ghose team. So far, Rs. 2,46,000 has been received which is being kept in a bank account jointly managed by Sumita and Anubha. Anubha is the operating treasurer and keeps a register of the expenses.
