This is the second conference on the topic of audio and video based techniques for the representation and recognition of humans. The first conference was held in Crans Montana, Switzerland in March 1996 and attracted more than 150 participants from countries in Europe, Asia and North America. The Second International Conference on Audio- and Video-based Biometric Person Authentication (AVBPA) will bring together the speech and face recognition researchers in an attempt to discuss ongoing research on these challenging problems.
