The Monastery Of LJubostinja
(near the town Trstenik)
The Church of the Ascension of the Virgin was endowed by Princess Milica.
It was built in 1388-9 and painted with frescoes between 1402 and 1405.
The building is a typical example of the Morava style. It was constructed
by the master builder Rade Borovich, on a trefoil plan with an octagonal
dome and pronounced vertical lines, and is richly decorated with ornamental
stone carving.
- Of the frescoes, by Monk Makarije, very little has been
preserved, but among the more interesting are:
-
The Healing of The Lame
-
Compositions depicting The Fifth Ecumenical Council
-
The Benefactress and several Figures of Saints
-
Scenes From the Life of Christ
