• Amy Weinberg and David Doermann talk about machine translation on NPR's "All Things Considered."
• Bonnie Dorr received the Postdoctoral Alumni Award and Edna Walker won Outstanding Non-Exempt Employee Award at the CMPS Academic Festival.
• Yi Li, UMIACS/ECE graduate student was awarded best student paper at the 2006 International Workshop on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (IWFHR) paper entitled “ A New Algorithm for Detecting Text Line in Handwritten Documents” with Yefeng Zheng, David Doermann and Stefan Jaeger.
• Xu Liu, David Doermann and Huiping Li won the best paper award for their paper entitled “Imaging as an alternative data channel for camera phones” presented at Stanford University at the 2006 International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia (MUM).
