Conference Lodging in the Campus Residence Halls

We have reserved a block of rooms in the campus residence halls that are available for lodging during the conference. The South Hill Residence Halls have suite-style accommodations that resemble small apartments without a kitchen. They are a short 5-minute walk from the meeting rooms. (Note that the closer hotels are about a 30-minute walk away, and the nicer hotels are not within walking distance.)

The residence hall units are air-conditioned single and double-occupancy room. As mentioned above, these are suite-style arrangements with two bathrooms and one lounge area shared among three-four bedrooms. Each bedroom is furnished with a twin bed, dresser, and chair for each guest. Accommodations are clean and comfortable, but they do not have amenities such as televisions or alarm clocks. A telephone is provided in each bedroom and bedrooms have access to the campus wireless network. On-campus housing includes a parking permit valid in a parking lot near the residence hall. Lodging in the Resident Halls is sold as a package. The basic package provides three nights of lodging during the symposium dates (check-in June 8 and check-out June 11). Most of the bedrooms have capacity for two people, but it is also possible to purchase a room for single occupancy at a higher rate. If you have a roommate in mind, you will be able to specify this request when registering.

If you choose to stay in the Campus Residence Halls, payment will be made when you register for the conference. (See the Conference Registration page.) As part of the registration process, you will also specify your arrival and departure dates and (if applicable) indicate your roommate.

Because there is a single bathroom shared among the bedrooms of each suite, the campus housing administration would prefer that roommates be of the same sex. There may be some flexibility in this policy, however. If you would like to share a room with someone of the opposite sex, please contact the conference chair, David Mount.

Hotel Information

If you would rather not stay in the Residence Halls, there are a number of hotels in the area. The following list is provided for your convenience in order for arranging your own accommodations. As a rule, hotels in College Park are closer and less expensive, but their quality is somewhat spotty. Many offer a courtesy shuttle service to the University. Check with the hotel when making your reservation.

For participants driving to the meeting, parking is available at any of a number of pay parking lots around campus. The closest facility to the meeting rooms and residence halls is the Mowatt Lane Garage, a large garage located just a couple minute's walk from Van Munching Hall and the South Campus Residence Halls. The parking garage has spaces both for visitors and campus permit-holding faculty/staff. (So note the signs for visitor parking on entering.) The rates are $2.00 per hour, with a $10.00 per day maximum. A cashier is on duty 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
