Visiting Professor Adnan Yahya Elected Senior Member of IEEE

Tue Aug 26, 2014

Adnan Yahya, a visiting professor at UMIACS, was recently elected a senior member of the IEEE.

The grade of Senior Member is the highest for which application to the IEEE may be made and is bestowed upon those whose experience reflects professional maturity. For admission or transfer to the grade of Senior Member, a candidate must be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields for a total of 10 years and have demonstrated five years of significant performance.

Only seven percent of the IEEE's 431,000 members have achieved the grade of Senior Member.

Yahya’s grade elevation was supported by Jack Minker and Louiqa Raschid, who both hold appointments in UMIACS, and Eyad “Eddie” Abed, a professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Yahya’s research focuses on artificial intelligence, natural language processing and more. He will be leaving UMIACS on Sept. 1.
