Subrahmanian Co-Authors IEEE Paper on Using Predictive Analytics to Save Rhinos

Mon Jul 20, 2015

V.S. Subrahmanian, a professor of computer science with an appointment in UMIACS, recently co-authored a paper published in IEEE Intelligent Systems on using predictive analytics to protect rhinos and elephants.

Working in the Laboratory for Computational Cultural Dynamics with UMIACS postdoctoral researcher Edoardo Serra and Noseong Park, a fourth-year doctoral student in computer science, Subrahmanian is developing a system called the Anti-Poaching Engine. The system combines satellite imagery, predictive modeling analytics and data obtained from small drones to provide a protective “cover” for wildlife and the rangers who protect them.
